What is Awareness?

"I trust the mystery. I trust what comes in silence and what comes in nature where there's no diversion. I think the lack of stimulation allows us to hear and experience a deeper river that's constant, still, vibrant, and real. And the process of deep listening with attention and intention catalyzes and mobilizes exactly what's needed at that time." – Angeles Arrien

Awareness is the ability to observe the occurrences of the outer and inner world, which includes thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and all other phenomena, without getting lost in them.

You will be using the Guided Meditations, Sit With It tips and Run With It tips to develop this important mind quality.

A low awareness result on the quiz means you tend to run on autopilot and are not connected with your emotions and body. Practice the awareness meditations and keep returning to your immediate experience of your body, feelings, and thoughts, in a kind and non-reactive way.

If you got a high awareness result in the Know Your Mind quiz, you can still continue to refine this subtle and most important quality of the mind. If, however, you feel your high awareness is creating hypersensitivity or overwhelm, pay special attention to self-compassion (covered in week 2) and appreciative joy (covered in week 5) to shift your perspective to all that is good and wholesome in your life. You can also balance excessive awareness with more single-pointed focus using practices such as awareness of breath and body scan.
